Wow! What a super week we've had in Caterpillar Class this week! 

In English we have been using speech bubbles to tell the story of The Enormous Turnip. We used a picture from the story and had to add in the speech bubbles. At the end of the week, we then wrote a traditional fairy tale from memory! We used stories like The Gingerbread Man, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs.

In Maths, we have been looking at halving and quartering numbers. We then had to solve problems using half and quarters. For example;

There were 24 cows in a field. Half of them moved away, how many are left?

We also used paper, straws and string to find half in centimeters. We had to measure something to a certain amount and then find half and cut it in half exactly.

In Topic, we have been busy looking at different types of plants. We learnt how to use a search engine such as Google to search for pictures of the different flowers we had been learning about. 

We also designed our own garden, either drawing or cutting and sticking pictures. 

We loved working with Miss Smith, planting some seeds and bulbs, and getting really messy hands!!

Caterpillar Class have had a fantastic first week back after the Easter Holidays!

In English, we have been reading the story The Enormous Turnip. We then wrote sentences to match the pictures that were stuck in our book. We had to remember all our punctuation, such as full stops and capital letters!

Then on Thursday we wrote our own version of The Enormous Turnip. We could change the turnip into any fruit or vegetable and we changed all the different characters! We used lots of super heroes and TV characters in our stories!

In Maths, we have been looking at different number patterns. We had to help Odd Bob and Even Steven investigate whether different number patterns had odd or even numbers in them. For example, we counted in 5's to 50 and found out that there are the same number of even numbers as odd numbers in the number pattern. We made very good investigators!

Our new topic is all about plants and growing. We looked at different plants and the parts of a plant. We found it a little tricky remembering all the different names but we had a really good go! 

We also did some observational drawings and made our own garden!

 

We've had a super busy week in Caterpillar class this week. 

In English, we learnt how to use verbs to give instructions. We then used this to write a recipe for Bogey Man Soup! 

In Topic, we made Bogey Man Soup. After making it, we learnt that its called Bogey Man soup because its a horrible green colour!! 

To make the soup we used leeks, potatoes, spinach, broccoli and milk. Some of us thought it was really yummy and some of us didn't like it at all!

We all helped to make it though!

We've worked super hard in Maths this week. We've been helping a farmer by thinking of different ways to group his animals on his farm in the fields. We then wrote the multiplication and division number sentences to show how they had been grouped! 

Wow! Caterpillar Class have been working hard this week!

In English, we have been busy using lots of exciting adjectives to describe an alien. We then learnt about speech bubbles and used them to tell a story about Shaun the Sheep and an alien coming to his farm for a visit! 

We had a conversation about our favourite part of Shaun the Sheep and why, making sure we listened to our partner and took turns. 

We have been super busy in Maths, learning all about multiplication and division. 

To help with this, we have been grouping an amount of objects and then writing down what the multiplication and division number sentence is. For example, if we had a group of 12 objects, we could split them into 3 groups of 4, the number sentences; 

4 lots of 3 is equal to 12

3 lots of 4 is equal to 12

12 divided by 3 is equal to 4

12 divided by 4 is equal to 3

In topic, we looked at all the different food from around the world. We also looked at why the food comes from certain places, for example, certain foods can only be grown in hot countries.

We also looked at the journey of a banana, where they grow and how they come to England. We then tried some banana sandwiches! 

In English, we have been looking at the book; Webster, the world's worst dog. We then had to write our own version of the story, using our names and a pet of our choosing instead. We had to re read our work carefully to make sure it made sense. 

In Maths, we have been using Base 10 to make different numbers. We then extended it to finding out the answers to different number sentences. 

In Topic, we have been busy trying lots of different foods that come from farm animals. For example, we tried yogurt, cheese and ham. We also tried making our own butter using double cream! It was hard working whisking and shaking the cream but it tasted yummy!

We also made fish out of plastic bottles. We covered the bottles in different colored tissue paper, and then stuck sequins on for fins and googly eyes.

What a great first week back after half term!

In English, we have been reading the story 'The Pig in the Pond'. We looked at the characters in the story and discussed why they acted the way they did. We then had to use adjectives to describe what was happening in different parts of the story.

In Maths, we have been learning one more and one less using number lines. We then learnt how to count in multiples of 10. We tried really hard this week in Maths. 

We've had a super busy week learning our new topic! We have been learning the different groups of animals; Mammals, Birds, Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians and Insects. We then used watercolors to paint a picture of a fish, we had to try and group all the different animals into their correct classification from memory and make some animal masks. 

Wow!! We've had a very busy week in Caterpillar Class.

We've been doing lots of acting in English! We looked at a Jack and The Beanstalk play and had to act out the parts of Jack, Mum, the Giant, and even the cow! It was a lot of fun, but a little bit tricky remembering all those lines!

We were amazing actors!

In Maths, we have been learning to tell the time. We've been looking at our daily routine and what time we wake up, go to school, have lunch ect. We have tried really hard to learn to tell the time. 

What a busy week in Topic! We had a very exciting afternoon on Wednesday! We all got to dress up as Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses and Knights. We then went into the hall for a Royal Banquet! It was lots of fun and we felt very royal with all our teachers serving our food and drink!

We all wore our crowns or helmets, and used our goblets to drink from. 

We even had a Jester at our Royal Banquet!

We ended our banquet with a Royal Dance!
